  • Goals: Participant will increase awareness of personal communication issues and develop individualized "Plan for Improvement"
  • Content: Spoken English evaluation (with recording), using speed, vocabulary and grammar to improve clarity, and the KISS principle
10:30 - 11:30

Grammar Overview

  • Goals: Participant will be introduced to our practical approach to grammar and reduce misconceptions about English grammar in use
  • Content: Kickoff test review, the Pareto Principle of grammar, identification of participant's grammar needs
11:30 - 12:30

Introductions & Making a Strong First Impression

  • Goals: Participant will learn to introduce oneself confidently in business situations, react appropriately to a variety of greetings, and make strong, positive first impressions
  • Content: The structure of introductions, types of introductions, the language of introductions, cultural expectations, and role plays
12:30 - 1:30 Lunch
1:30 - 2:30

The Art of English Small Talk & Creating Rapport

  • Goals: Participant will learn to prepare for small talk situations, participate more actively in small talk, and improve rapport with business associates
  • Content: Conversation techniques and styles, small talk preparation methods, cultural differences, and practice
2:30 - 3:30 Grammar Practice
3:30 - 4:30

Vocabulary Training & Techniques

  • Goals: Participant will identify key areas for vocabulary improvement, evaluate different methods of vocabulary training
  • Content: Vocabulary needs analysis, introduction to vocabulary training techniques, and practice
4:30 - 5:00

Putting it into Practice

  • Goals: Participant will review the main points of today's program and practice conversation skills
  • Content: Verbal review, conversation practice, and feedback

Writing Skills

  • Goals: Participant will evaluate writing skills, learn standard terms and phrases, and discover techniques for improving writing skills
  • Content: Analysis of writing samples, standard terms and phrases, grammar used in writing, writing techniques, writing styles and standards, practice

Grammar and Writing Practice

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch

Telephone Training

  • Goals: Participant will learn to speak more clearly on the phone and discover techniques for improving telephoning skills
  • Content: Telephoning techniques, standard terms and phrases, politeness, p Preparation techniques, and practice

  • This time will be used to review any necessary material and cover points that were mentioned as goals

  • The continuing learning process

  • Location: Variable (Travel charges apply outside of Southeastern Connecticut)
  • Facilities: Programs are run in New London, CT or in-house. Training hotels or corporate training centers with conference facilities can also be arranged for an additional charge.
